Carnosine

— INGREDIENT —

Carnosine is a naturally-occurring amino-acid, which has powerful immune boosting and antiaging properties. Carnosine has been found to be a potent antioxidant that protects against accelerated brain aging by preventing lipid peroxidation within the cell membrane. Carnosine supplementation may help to extend the life of every cell in the animal body.

Functions of Carnosine:
• Increases muscle strength and endurance.
• Protects against radiation damage.
• Improves the function of the heart.
• Speeds wound healing.
• Super antioxidant that quenches even the most destructive free radicals.
• Boosts immunity and reduces inflammation.
• It helps chelate certain heavy metals removing them from the body.
Carnosine is a potent antioxidant shown to dramatically lower mitochondrial damage typically caused by stress and glycation (protein-sugar bonding) leading to cellular dysfunction and disease.
Carnosine coupled with other natural nutrients known to be neuroprotective can lower the oxidative stress placed on critical brain structures and provide an effective shield against the development and progression of brain disease. Carnosine may play an important role in both slowing the onset of and potentially reversing the effects of cognitive dysfunction in dogs and cats.
Carnosine slows the aging process in animals by inhibiting the formation of age-inducing substances called “advanced glycation end products” (AGEs). Studies suggest that Carnosine also protects DNA and proteins from cross-linking. In addition, laboratory studies have shown that it can rejuvenate senescent cells (the end of the life cycle of dividing cells) thus restoring and extending normal cellular life span.
Numerous animal studies indicate Carnosine protects against radiation damage, improves heart function, and promotes wound healing. It is thought that this unique di-peptide is the water-soluble counterpart to vitamin E in protecting cell membranes from oxidative damage.
Carnosine also possesses other suggested roles such as a modulator of enzyme activities and chelator of heavy metals ((a substance that binds heavy metals, reducing their toxicity). In addition, it appears to act as a neurotransmitter (chemical messenger in the nervous system).
